GO ONE-ON-ONE IN A SUPERCAR

If you’re in the mood for something fast and furious, why not grab some friends or family members and head for the Gold Coast.

Aside from all the usual attractions of this popular Queensland region, there is Norwell Motorplex, home of the Supercars Official Driving Experience.

Owned by long-time racer Paul Morris, this is the only Supercar experience officially endorsed by the sport’s governing body, and a fantastic way to spend a day.

There are several packages on offer for those who fancy themselves as racing car drivers, or who simply want to fuel their adrenalin addiction. You can book in on your own, but you double the fun by booking in with your mates, to race each other on the 2.1km circuit. You must all have current manual licences.

All the cars at the facility are prepared by actual Supercar engineers and mechanics, and your group will have the choice of V8 Holden Commodores or Ford Falcons – that should help sort out some long-term rivalry!

The packages include use of race suits and helmets and a full briefing before you go racing. Morris’s team of driving instructors are all motorsport professionals, and they want your group to walk away from the day not just having satisfied your cravings but also with a greater understanding of their sport, and picking up some skills that will help you all to be much safer drivers in everyday life.

Once you’ve been briefed on how to handle the car, with tips on cornering and braking and the correct way to tackle the circuit, you will be strapping yourselves in and getting set to race when the cars fire up.

Whether you’ve chosen the five, seven or 12-lap drive experience, you will have an experience you will never forget – the smells, the sounds, the impact of the G-forces on your bodies are very different to the experience you have in your road cars.

The Norwell team will teach you that speed comes from experience. Rather than ‘thrashing’ the cars, and trying to be heroes on the first lap, you and your mates should take heed of their advice.

You will find that being smooth and accurate, and having mechanical sympathy with the way the car works is the way to make every lap better than the one before. At the end of the day, you will walk away much better drivers than when you started, and you will be able to see and feel the improvement.

Aside from the racing experience itself, the tips from the Norwell team will give your group a new appreciation of how to handle a car properly. Providing you all use that knowledge sensibly, it’s a long-term benefit from the day. And when it’s over, you have great memories to share for years to come.

Of course, if the day fires up an even greater need for speed or shows that you all have natural talent, Norwell Motorplex has the systems in place for you to train to be a fully licensed race driver – so what are you waiting for?
